Mount Sinai Hospital Emergency Department Hosts Chinese Researchers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 3, 2010

Chicago - Seven employees of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics spent six weeks combing through data and doing literature reviews, providing epidemiological support of the ongoing research efforts in the Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine.  The students are participating in an intensive year-long degree program in pubic administration through Roosevelt University.

Their agency in China has a five year plan that includes sending 100 employee students abroad to learn about public administration in other countries, understanding that China is very much a part of a global economy.  This is the second cohort to travel to Chicago and matriculate through Roosevelt University.  Said spokespersons Xiaoguang Zheng (aka James) and Xiaona Zhou (aka Nina), “This has been a successful experience.”  The group been immersed in an English speaking environment, has been part of the daily life of a U.S. work effort, has contributed statistical analyses and literature reviews for the advancement of three Emergency Department studies on psychiatric emergencies, and has enjoyed the collegial environment at Sinai.

James added that he was impressed at the care Sinai takes to assure that patients and other visitors are protected from communicable diseases such as tuberculosis and the H1N1 influenza.

An additional high point for two of the students was the birth of their daughter during the last week of the students’ six weeks at Sinai.
